Elementary Education Licensure Program in Multidisciplinary Studies
The Bachelor of Science degree program in Multidisciplinary Studies is designed for candidates who desire initial licensure in Elementary Education (grades k-6), and prepares students for teaching children without and with disabilities in regular classroom settings. The course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree for initial undergraduate elementary education licensure candidates has three components to prepare students for careers in education. The three areas reflect the Mission of the College and the Division of Education’s Program Theme and are designed to meet the Vermont State Department of Education’s requirements for teacher certification. The three components are foundational studies in liberal education, an academic concentration in liberal arts or sciences, and a sequence of courses in education. Students are required to complete the general education core of 39 credits, the content of the Multidisciplinary major requirements of 33 semester hours, the requirements for the elementary education licensure program of 43 semester hours, and a student teaching placement of 12 semester hours.
