Sunday, February 24, 2008)
SOUTH PORTLAND,
Maine
– The College of St. Joseph men’s basketball team beat
No. 1 UMFK during the Sunrise Conference Championship
game on Sunday, Feb. 24.
Rui Carmo scored 8 of the final points and came up with a huge steal with
14 seconds left in the game which then led to the game
winning three from Doug Childs. Carmo finished with a
game high 35 points and 12 rebounds. Tyler Herrington
scored 14 points which included a put back that tied the
score with 14 seconds left. Rich Ortega was solid with 7
points and 11 rebounds. The team will now compete in the
NAIA Division II National Tournament held at the College of the
Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri, beginning March 12.

86, Vermont Tech 73 (Tuesday, February 19, 2008)
In Randolph, Rich Ortega paced CSJ with 19 points and
eight rebounds. Tyler Herrington had 16 points and Rui
Carmo followed with a double-double 13 points and 19
boards. Joe Clough paced Vermont Technical College with
19 points and Jake Clough finished with 18.

In Rutland, the Fighting Saints led the entire way but
survived a scare at the end to break a four-game Sunrise
Conference losing streak. Rui Carmo led the way with 23
points and 13 rebounds, while Rich Ortega added 16
points and 15 rebounds. Doug Childs added 11 and Ryan
Kimball 10 to the cause of the 10-14 Saints, who
improved to 6-5 in the conference.
