College of St. Joseph welcomes James Lambert as director of communications.

James comes to the college after spending 12 years in journalism, most recently as the head of the copy desk for the Rutland Herald and Barre-Montpelier Times Argus. During his career at the Herald, James held a number of positions, including a role as lead designer. During this time, he won five awards from the New England Associated Press Newspaper Executives Association.

James has a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from Plattsburgh State University and a master’s degree in information technology from Marlboro College Graduate School, giving him a solid foundation in both producing quality publications and Web strategy. He has worked with a number of organizations to improve Web content, social media campaigns and search engine optimization, and was a member of the social media expert panel at World Usability Day New England in 2010.

In the role of director of communications, James will present a consistent message across all of the college’s outlets from print materials to social media. He will also improve media relations and generate coverage of campus events and activities.

“I view this role at College of St. Joseph as a great opportunity. I’m looking forward to helping the college’s faculty, staff and students tell their stories,” James said. “There are a lot of great things going on here.”

The opportunity to wear a number of different hats is the most appealing aspect of this position, he said.

“I bring a lot of passion and energy to telling a story through writing and design, and enjoy the modern-day challenges of presenting this information across various channels. At the college I am able to both gather information and think strategically about how content can be used to spread the college’s values and message.”

James lives in Rutland Town with his wife, Summer, and his two young sons.
