Academic Dean
College of St. Joseph
is searching for an Academic Dean. This position reports
directly to the president and is responsible for leading
all academic programs and services (five academic
divisions, library, registrar's office, and academic
support services). Additionally, the position is
responsible for maintaining compliance with regional
accreditation standards and state certification
requirements, directing academic planning, program and
academic personnel evaluation, student learning outcomes
assessment, and academic budget development and oversight.
Position requires an earned doctorate, substantive
teaching and administrative experience in higher
education, excellent communication and team building
skills, and a commitment to career-oriented liberal arts
education. The ideal candidate will be a person who is
student-centered, collaborative, and understands and
embraces the cultural differences associated with a small,
Catholic college offering undergraduate and graduate
programs in a rural state.

VISTA
Student Services seeks volunteer interested in
a challenging and rewarding professional opportunity working
with foster care students as they transition into the college
environment; facilitating personal life skills development
programming; and connecting students to community service
opportunities. Position supplies housing, meal plan, campus
benefits related to gym and library access, and possible
tuition remission. Volunteer would be implementing and
developing a new program in conjunction with strategic plan of
the College of St. Joseph master plan.
This position would work in conjunction with
the Vermont Campus Compact (VCC), a consortium of 22
institutions of higher education in Vermont aiming to create a
flourishing democracy. VCC works with members to strengthen
communities and educate for informed and active citizenship.
VCC presidents believe that through sustained student,
faculty, and institutional engagement with communities, higher
education can help prepare tomorrow’s civic and social leaders
while improving the lives of Vermonters. Providing training,
networking, grants, resources, awards and more, VCC advances
civic engagement on campuses and in communities, through
service, integrating service into teaching
(“service-learning”), campus/community partnerships, activism,
dialogue, and socially responsible lifestyles. VCC is
affiliated with national Campus Compact and 32 state
affiliates, more than 1000 members realizing the public good
of higher education.
Vermont Campus Compact is looking for people to fight poverty
as organizers, collaborators, and catalysts for change. Each
member will serve one year at a participating college, working
with students, faculty, administration, and local communities
to build volunteer and service-learning programs on the campus
and mobilize the resources of higher education to serve the
needs of the community. By coordinating the integration of
service and academics, you will effect sustainable change that
serves community needs while fostering much needed leadership
and civic engagement in college students.
General responsibilities include: Building and
maintaining community partnerships, recruiting student
volunteers, training student leaders, increasing access to and
retention in higher education for low-income students, working
with faculty to develop service-learning programs.

All positions will begin August 18, 2008, and will start on
the CSJ campus around August 25, 2008 and serve for one
calendar year.
Additional Qualifications: College Degree
(Bachelor degree preferred), excellent communication skills,
public speaking skills, desire to work with college students,
volunteer experience and a demonstrated commitment to service,
and leadership experience.
