CSJ faculty member Mary McNeil recently presented at the 2013 Professional Development Schools National Conference in New Orleans.
McNeil’s presentation, Engaging in Collaborative Inquiry Designed to Further the Profession, was done in collaboration with Dorothy Feola, William Paterson University, and Lut De Jaegher, Artevelde University College, Belgium.
The presenters engaged for three years as critical friends looking closely at one another’s school-based teacher educating programs, focusing on the need to prepare teachers for careers in a global society. The conversations between them served as a catalyst for examining teacher and teacher educator practice with the goal of improving the programs.
The session shared how each school-based teacher education program in collaboration with
PDS partners supported new teacher preparation and the professional renewal of veteran teachers to improve student learning. They also shared their finding on how the engagement of university faculty in collaborative school-based teacher preparation and research has strengthened the programs and how sharing work on an international level has added in meaningful ways to each of our teacher education programs.
