Social Media Certificate (for students not in a degree program)
The social media certificate is for students who are not in a CSJ degree program.
Students may enter the certificate program at the beginning of any semester. Courses are rotated to allow students to complete the certificate in as little as one year.
Why earn a certificate in social media?
Businesses and organizations large and small need employees with skills in creating and managing Web content, whether that is on the company website, on social media outlets or email marketing.
Here is just a small sampling of recent job listings have shown these as required or desired skills:
- Social media content creator & virtual trainer
- Web communication assistant
- Health communications professional
- Museum curator
- Executive director of historical society
- Wealth management and social media – senior manager

Those working toward a certificate can choose to take the four required courses at a cost of $250 per course – a total cost of $1,000*. Students who choose this reduced-cost option receive a certificate as proof of satisfactory completion of the coursework; however, they do not receive transferable college credit for the courses.
Non-matriculated students may also choose to take the certificate courses for credit at our regular tuition rate. Students choosing this option would receive a transcript and the courses have the potential to be transferred into a degree program.
*Students who have completed a statistics course at an accredited college within the past five years may count the completion of that course toward their certificate. Students who have completed a statistics course at an accredited college more than five years prior may opt to test out of the statistics course. Students who are not required to complete statistics can complete the concentration for a total of $750.
Requirements for completion
Students must complete the four required courses with a grade of “C” or better in each course. (Qualifying students are exempt from taking the statistics course and must only complete three courses to earn the certificate.)
