Susan works with student in learning center

College of St. Joseph students are provided with free access to the campus Student Achievement Center, which provides academic support services for those looking for a quiet, structured environment to work.

Student Achievement Center services include untimed testing, additional tutoring, progress monitoring, proofreading of papers, tutoring of all 100 and 200 level classes and study groups.

The Student Achievement Center provides two types of tutoring to students: peer tutoring and Learning Specialist tutoring. Peer tutors are students with high academic standing who are hired to provide basic study skills support to students upon request.

Peer tutors are matched with students based on learning style, subject matter and according to student needs. The Learning Specialist is also available for direct instruction and support for students with academic needs.

Should a student require accommodations due to a disability, it is the student’s responsibility to bring documentation of their disability to the Learning Specialist.

The Learning Specialist will review the documentation as well as have a discussion with the student as to how to help them be successful. Once an accommodation request form is completed, instructors are notified to implement accommodations.

In compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), information regarding a student’s educational records is considered private and confidential.

The Student Achievement Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students can walk in or make an appointment.
