Susan works with student in learning center

College of St. Joseph students are provided with free access to the campus Learning Center, which provides academic support services for those looking for a quiet, structured environment to work.

Learning Center services include untimed testing, additional tutoring, progress monitoring, proofreading of papers, tutoring of all 100 and 200 level classes and study groups.

The Learning Center provides two types of tutoring to students: peer tutoring and director tutoring. Peer tutors are students with high academic standing who are hired to provide basic study skills support to students upon request.

Peer tutors are matched with students based on learning style, subject matter and according to student needs. The Learning Center director is also available for direct instruction and support for students with academic needs.

Should a student require accommodations due to a disability, it is the student’s responsibility to bring documentation of their disability to the Learning Center Director.

Director will review the documentation as well as have a discussion with the student as to how to help them be successful. Once an accommodation request form is completed, instructors are notified to implement accommodations.

In compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), information regarding a student’s educational records is considered private and confidential.

The Learning Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students can walk in or make an appointment.

Director availability is Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon, and all day Wednesday (by appointment only).
