Learning Center for Academic Support
All full-time CSJ students are provided free access to the campus Learning Center.
The learning center provides academic support services for any student who needs a quiet, structured and confidential environment to work.
Services the learning center may provide include untimed testing, additional tutoring, progress monitoring, proofreading of papers for all students (if presented to us within a reasonable time), tutoring of all 100 and 200 level classes and study groups.
Academic support appointments
The center’s hours are between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., based on availability and need. Students can walk-in, make an appointment or be referred by a faculty member.

Should a student require accommodations due to a disability, it is the student’s responsibility to bring documentation of their disability to the Learning Center Director. The Learning Center Director will review the documentation as well as have a discussion with the student as to how to help them be successful. Once an Accommodation “Request/Release” form is completed, instructors are notified to implement accommodations.
In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), information regarding a student’s educational records is considered private and confidential.
Peer tutors are students with high academic standing who are hired to provide basic study-skills support to students upon request. Peer tutors are matched with students by learning style, subject matter, and according to student needs.
Students requesting tutoring services are screened by the director and placed with tutors to meet their academic support needs.
The Learning Center director can provide direct instruction and support for students with serious academic needs.
Students can be mandated to work with the director if they are on academic probation and are considered by instructors or the academic dean to be at risk of academic trouble.
Director services are made by appointment only.
