College of St. Joseph will introduce its Community Day schedule in the 2014-15 school year. This schedule will create a class schedule with no daytime classes on Wednesdays, which are reserved for academic work, community service and other meaningful opportunities.
“The Community Day will strengthen the college’s increased commitment to community service by affording students a regularly scheduled block of time to do community service, and enhances the college’s ability to coordinate community service opportunity for CSJ students, said David Balfour, interim academic dean.
Community Day will provide regularly scheduled activities to engage and provide significant academic, service, spiritual and other opportunities to students, as well as to the larger college community. The day will also provide students greater access to faculty and staff outside of the traditional classroom setting.
“The Community Days schedule will deepen student engagement and foster a greater sense of campus community by providing more opportunities for a variety of group campus activities,” Balfour said.
Two-day a week, three-credit daytime classes will typically meet MF or TR for 80-minute blocks.
Time slots will be adjusted for four-credit courses, daytime labs, and other special instances.
Developmental classes will be scheduled three times a week for 50-minute periods.
Evening classes will continue to be scheduled at the traditional time from Monday through Thursday (including Wednesday evenings).
- Full-time faculty and Learning Center staff will be available to students for consultation on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
