College of St. Joseph was honored to grant degrees to 74 graduates at the College’s 59th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 26.
CSJ President Lawrence Jensen conferred degrees upon the graduates. Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Robert Goddard led the processional.
Associate Professor of Psychology and Human Services, and Clinical Director of the CSJ Traumatology Institute, Dr. Robert Walsh delivered the commencement address.
“Your graduation is a recognition that you have satisfactorily completed your degree requirements, and your commencement indicates how you will apply your degree toward your life path and career….in short celebrating what you’ve finished, and at the same time celebrating what you will be starting.
“I don’t know a soul that doesn’t want success, and for each of us what constitutes success is usually very personal. To understand success; to measure success, or declare our feelings of being successful, two central elements must always be part of the equation…relevance and reverence…Success is not possible without relevance and reverence.
“Our lives do not proceed on a linear path, we have difficulties, we suffer, we have obstacles to attend to and adapt to new conditions, but if we choose success, we choose also relevance and reverence, and it is amazing what we construct, and feel joy in our celebration of what is good, right, and pleasing to our manifest purposes.
“It is my hope that each of us understands and appreciates what it is that you are celebrating, that you can pursue your dreams because of your experience and training, that you can give thanks to the awesome power that is within you.”
