Code of Conduct
The College of St. Joseph Library/TLC welcomes all users, however, our collections, services, and facilities are chiefly intended for the College community. Our students require an environment that is conducive to quiet study, research, student group work, learning, collaboration, and instruction.

Anyone who behaves inappropriately in the Library will be given a verbal warning. If the inappropriate behavior continues, the patron will be asked to leave the Library.
If an individual refuses to comply with a request to cease inappropriate behavior or to leave the Library, Campus Security will be notified.
Inappropriate behavior may include, but is not limited to the following:
- Loud or excessive noise.
- Vandalism of Library materials.
Consumption of alcohol, illegal substances, or tobacco products are forbidden on the College of St. Joseph campus. Please refer to the Student Handbook for further information.
Harassment of any kind: physical, verbal or sexual directed at other Library patrons or at Library staff.
Graffiti and Criminal Mischief
Act of property damage, including vandalism and graffiti, are considered criminal mischief. In Vermont, such acts carry penalties ranging from 6 months in jail and $500 fine, to 5 years in prison, with fines up to $5000. Ref: Vermont. Sec. 13 V.S.A. § 3701)
Food & Drink
Food or beverages may be consumed anywhere within the library. However, Patrons are expected to place any used items in the recycling bin or Trash receptacle.
Use of Cell Phones & Other Electronic Devices
Cell phone conversations are not allowed in the Library. Please turn off all ringers, pagers, etc. upon entering the Library and conduct conversations outside the Library.
All digital or handheld electronics with sound must be used with a headset.
DVD players must be used with a headset (unless they are used in conjunction with “group work”. If used for “group Work” the volume should be at an appropriate level.
Sound on laptop PCs should be turned off. Laptop computers must be used with a headset or the sound must be muted.
Students may use their laptops and other devices via the College of St. Joseph WiFi. No username or password is required.
We do not have wireless printing at this time. You can save any files to Google Docs, or any storage device and login to any of the computers in either computer lab to print any documents.
Quiet Study Room
As the name implies, this is a “quiet” room for the serious student seeking a quiet place to study. Library staff reserve the right to ask any non-compliant individual to go to another area of the library.
Library Hours & Library Closings are posted on all message boards and the CSJ website. Identical postings will be located at the entrance of the library.
Library patrons should check out materials 15 minutes prior to closing.
Library staff will notify patrons 15 minutes prior to closing. At that time computers will be shut off. Important – Files must be saved on flash drives or through email attachments by that point, or work will be lost.
Library patrons should complete photocopying 15 minutes prior to closing.
Library patrons are expected to comply with directions of the Library staff to leave the Library in the case of a drill or emergency.
