David Balfour teaches a variety of European and World history courses covering the Ancient, Medieval, and Modern periods. His chief specialty is Medieval Europe. Aside from teaching, he enjoys researching and writing on ancient and medieval topics. Recent publications include “The Last Athenian and the First Greek: Demosthenes, Isocrates, and the Twilight of the Polis,” (Ancient History, scheduled for 2017); “The War of the Two Matildas: A Queen and an Empress at Odds” (Medieval Warfare 2016); “Epaminondas: ‘First Among the Greeks'” (Ancient Warfare (2015); and “A Formidable Sight!: Sichelgaita of Salerno and the Battle of Durazzo,” (Medieval Warfare 2014).
